Gross Human Anatomy Lab

Help us raise awareness for the Gross Human Anatomy Lab and give students the opportunity to experience all the great things this facility has to offer.

At Wittenberg, student-faculty research gives our students a competitive edge, and thanks to the vision of Associate Professor John Thistlethwaite, the new Gross Human Anatomy Lab has accelerated our commitment to their success even more. The new cadaver lab and classroom space came to life this summer in the Barbara Deer Kuss Science Center with the help of Wittenberg’s facilities and IT teams.  A camera and monitors are connected to the classroom so that any anatomical structure seen on any of the cadavers can be viewed on the monitors and in the classroom. The lab will provide students with cutting-edge learning and exploration for years to come. Below are some of the great benefits it has to offer!

  • To have a cadaver lab at a liberal arts institution is incredibly unique. To be able to actually dissect on a cadaver is even more unique. This places Wittenberg in one of just a handful of liberal arts institutions that allow undergraduate students to dissect on human cadavers.
  • The human body can’t be replicated or simulated, which is why a cadaver is the best way to learn the human form.
  • Students will have the opportunity to dissect on cadavers to learn the human form. Not only does this allow for an in-depth study of human anatomy, but it greatly prepares students for entry to any professional or graduate program.
  • Very common feedback we get from directors and faculty in professional and graduate programs is how prepared students are coming into that program and that those students typically take on a leadership role in that graduate gross human anatomy course.
  • The most common feedback we get from previous students who went on to a professional or graduate program is how prepared they were for gross human anatomy in that program.

Please consider a gift to the Gross Human Anatomy Lab, which will provide students with exceptional learning and exploration for years to come, as well as excellent preparation for entry into any professional or graduate program.
